FreeUnit is a lightweight and versatile application runtime that provides the essential components for your web application as a single open-source server: running application code (including WebAssembly), serving static assets, handling TLS and request routing.

FreeUnit is a community-maintained fork of NGINX Unit, continued after the original project was archived in October 2025. The latest version is 1.35.3, released on Apr 7, 2026.
